Journey to the Homeland was the first place winner in the 2007 Tweener Time International Chapter Book Competition. The author is 16-year-old Hannah Stahlhut form Danville, Indiana. Hannah was a junior when the book was written. She is homeschooled, and her mother, Monica Stahlhut, is her teacher.
Journey to the Homeland is the story of Keegan, a young orphan, who lives in an unamed country. He's just like any other 11-year old boy, except for his unique way with animals. For as long as he can remember, Keegan has been able to talk to creatures. His worst fear is that this gift will be discovered.
There is a grave misunderstanding when Nora, the most quarrelsome girl in town, is kidnapped because of a confusion Keegan could have prevented. He is faced with an important decision: should he risk everything and go after her? Journey to the Homeland offers families everything they want in a great book: fantasy based in the real world. Parents will love the themes of friendship and responsibility, kids will love the adventure and suspense.
